Over the years, the Church and Nation Committee has prepared and published many articles and reports for the information of Presbyterians. In addition other reports were published for the benefit of the committee which was obliged to investigate matters brought before it from a range of sources.
Many requests came from the Assembly, which sees the Committee, among other things, as a research arm. A detailed separate report was not always prepared as it often required a simple response, obtained perhaps from the Church's legal officers. These were incorporated into the Committee's Assembly report published in the "White Book", the pre-Assembly business papers,  sent out to members prior to the General Assembly.
At other times, correspondence from members or church courts was the trigger and this often resulted in fruitful investigation.
Perhaps the most common way for a report to begin was when a public issue emerged which was recognized by the committee as being important. The investigation was usually delegated to someone, not always a member of the committee.
What follows is a catalogue of papers published as supplementary papers to the Assembly Report since 1985. Reports written before that.year were incorporated into the report itself and will be found under Assembly Papers. Sadly they have often been viewed as papers relevant only to Assembly commissioners with the result that they have frequently not been sighted by ordinary members of the church.
Unfortunately not all articles are credited to their authors, a regrettable fact caused by the committee adopting the paper as its own report.  The Committee will arrange to give credit where oversights are pointed out.
All articles are now in PDF format which load directly using ACROBAT READER. Every effort has been made to correct scanning errors but some errors may have slipped through unnoticed.  Each file contains all articles published that year and a table of contents is provided within the file. The page numbers where shown may not be accurate.
All articles are the intellectual property of the writers, not he Assembly or the Committee, and may not be altered. Quotations should be acknowledged.
